Not just music...

Yesterday, author Sarah Layden and voiceover artist / radio personality Melissa Davis (WFYI 90.1FM) stopped by the studio to work on a demo for the audiobook of Sarah's debut novel Trip Through Your Wires. If you like murder mysteries with a dash of coming-of-age angst, be sure to grab a copy of the book.  Bonus: Indianapolis residents will no doubt recognize many of the places featured in the novel.

I'm very excited to be working on this project as both producer and engineer and can't wait to share more with you all soon!

Busy, busy, busy!

2015 has been a pretty exciting year so far, folks, and we still have a quarter of it left!  Sorry for the lack of updates on this site.  Most of my updates have gone out via e-mail, Facebook, or over on my studio website.

In short, though, here's what's been going on in Gabeland...

  • Elise Erikson Barrett is working on a new album of "reinvented" (generally in a folksy way) hymns, which I am engineering and producing. The sessions have been a blast and it's been great to bring new life to some treasured classics. We hope to have the record in your hands by Easter of 2016.
  • I started a new record label! Perfect Mix Records will come into being in the last quarter of this year with a single by super-fun surf-punk band Werewolf with a Shotgun. And yes, we're looking for more artists to add to our roster, so keep your ear to the ground and drop a line if you know a hardworking band or solo artist who deserves to get their music recorded and heard!
  • SF Bay Area singer-songwriter Ren Geisick and I are working material for her debut album, to be recorded at one of my all-time favorite facilities, the legendary Fantasy Studios. More on that in the coming weeks!
  • I'm continuing to expand my clientele and services worldwide! At the moment, I am working to establish relationships with even more studios and artists in LA, New York, and London. Have headphones, will travel... :)
There's a lot more going on here than I can reasonably list, but needless to say, everything is awesome (to quote a certain earworm of a song).  Onward and upward!

Starting this month, I'll be producing a podcast that talks about recording, music-making, and the cool people I'm working with as a producer, engineer, and musician. We'll chat, laugh, and play some new music for you! The debut episode will feature punk-surf quartet Werewolf With A Shotgun, whose new EP drops next Saturday. New Release: Werewolf with a Shotgun debut EP!

A project that I recorded, mixed, and mastered recently has just been released: the debut EP by punky-surf band WEREWOLF WITH A SHOTGUN.  These guys and gal are an amazingly fun group from Indianapolis, combining cool female vocals, twangy-crunchy tenor guitar, and rockin' bass and drums.

Take a listen and get yourself a download!  The physical CD will be available at their upcoming shows.

You can also catch up with them on Facebook.
